The Townsend Historical Society can trace its roots back to 1896. Townspeople recognized the important and interesting history of the area and wanted to help preserve the artifacts, art, and architecture that make the town unique. Through the following years, the society has grown immensely and now maintains a number of historic buildings, hosts educational and fun professional talks and school programs, and is home to a museum where visitors are able to view the actual pieces of history that make up Townsend’s exciting past.
